2021 Syrah, Donnachadh Vineyard
2021 is our inaugural Syrah from Donnachadh Vineyard, a cool-climate site in the Santa Rita Hills. Planted up the hillside, in clay soils, this Syrah requires long hangtime, reaching full ripeness at lower sugar levels. A savory Syrah, showing white pepper, floral notes and herbs de Provence. Rounded out by blue fruits and a structured finish, this elegant Syrah is made to enjoy young or for mid-term aging.
Jeb Dunnuck 93 points ~ Coming from a site in the Sta. Rita Hills and vinified with one-third stems, the 2021 Syrah Donnachadh Vineyard is similarly hued (maybe a touch lighter) and gives up a Saint-Joseph-like perfume of blue fruits, peppery herbs, graphite, bay leaf, and crushed stone. Vibrant, medium-bodied, focused, and elegant, with a great finish, it's another singular beauty from this team that readers will love. — Jeb Dunnuck
Vinous 93 points ~ A new wine in this range, the 2021 Syrah Donnachadh is a small bottling of just three barrels. Dark and layered, with tons of whole cluster complexity, the 2021 is striking. All the elements are so well balanced. I especially admire the energy here. This is a fantastic debut. Drinking window 2023-2031. — Antonio Galloni
Wine Enthusiast 96 points ~ This is one of the most exciting vineyards in the appellation, especially for its zesty cool-climate Syrah. This bottling hits the nose with aromas of snappy raspberry, rosemary-crusted lam, and a massive amount of white pepper. The palate falls in line, popping with brisk pomegranate and raspberry fruit alongside singed sagebrush and a spicy rainbow peppercorn medley. — Matt Kettmann
