2017 Grenache Blanc, Thompson Vineyard
LOS ALAMOS VALLEY | SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Our 2017 Grenache Blanc was partially aged in stainless steel, keeping the wine bright, and light on its feet. Malolactic fermentation was inhibited at just one-third completion, to maintain acidity. Showing spring flowers and honeydew melon, this wine is clean and pretty; perfect as an aperitif or paired with salads and light appetizers.
A variety that doesn’t get enough play in California is Grenache Blanc and the 2017 Grenache Blanc Thompson Vineyard from Jaffurs is a great example of the variety. Crisp citrus, mint, leafy herbs, and some mineral-like notes all emerge from this juicy, medium-bodied, clean and crisp white that's going to be incredibly versatile on the dinner table. This cuvée spent 6 months in 60% stainless steel and 40% neutral oak. Drink 2018-2021.
Crisp aromas of nectarine meet with riper melon and chalky tension on the nose of this bottling. The palate is very restrained at first but then allows smooth with flavors of melon, papaya and lime rind to take over.
A robust, medium-bodied white, with pineapple, pear and melon flavors that have crunchy acidity and a spicy accent. A slightly waxy texture lingers on the finish. Drink now. 400 cases made.
Very light in color, this tightly wound bottling shows aromas of crisp Asian pear, chilled Pink Lady apples, sharp green melon rind, wet stone and a definite grassy quality. The palate is a study in wound-up freshness that's on the verge of bursting, with more Asian pear and hints of pluot riding an extremely pithy texture.
2015 Grenache Blanc, Thompson Vineyard
This bottling exhibits both the ripe and fresh aspects of the grape. The nose shows peach custard, honeysuckle and tuberose touches, while the palate is framed by acidic verve. Candied yellow apple, melon and lemon custard flavors are cut by that racy acidity.
