2014 High Tide Rhone Blend
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
This High Tide is a Mourvèdre dominated blend at 57%, rounding out with 29% Grenache and 14% Syrah. Mourvèdre provides the bones for this tightly-structured wine, showing a gamey flavor profile. Grenache gives higher tone perfume and red fruit aromatics, while Syrah fleshes out the mid-palate. Partial whole-cluster fermentation lends savory spice and broad texture to this complex wine that continues to develop in the glass, and should age well for up to 10 years past the vintage.
A blend of 57% Mourvèdre, 29% Grenache and the rest Syrah, the 2014 High Tide from Jaffurs is a peppery, lively effort (no doubt from the inclusion of plenty of whole clusters) offering notes of cranberries, raspberries, peppery herbs and damp earth. Medium-bodied, fresh and firm on the palate with juicy acidity, give it a year and drink it over the following 3-4. — Jeb Dunnuck
The 2014 High Tide, Jaffurs' Mourvèdre-based blend, offers good depth and plenty of aromatic nuance to carry through the midpalate and finish. Spicy, peppery notes add perfume and complexity throughout. Drinking window 2017-2022. — Antonio Galloni
