SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

2018 was an exceptional year for Mourvédre at Thompson Vineyard, inspiring us to produce the first Jaffurs “Mourvédre” designate wine in nearly a decade. After fruit set, we dropped the crop load down to one cluster per shoot to ensure full and even ripening in this cool vintage. Grapes were allowed to ferment with native yeast and 100% steminclusion. After 18 months in neutral barrels, 20% Grenache was blended in to bring out red fruit aromatics. Elegant up front, with fresh cut strawberry, rose and peppercorn on the nose. Earth, game and bramble is finished by fine grained tannins. This is a playful wine that will develop through the years but may be best in its youth.
