2016 Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara County
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
The 2016 Pinot Noir shows cherry, sage and orange peel aromatics. Core flavors of sweet red fruit are supported by black tea and Asian spice. Vibrant acidity, and partial stem inclusion provide structure throughout, leading to a long and savory finish. Though this wine should age gracefully for years to come, it is made to be open and enjoyable in its youth.
There's a compellingly earthy minerality that grabs hold right away on the nose of this bottling, with loam and wet gravel running into marjoram, tea leaf and boysenberry sorbet aromas. The sip shows dark and snappy fruits, with acid washing into the midpalate and then loads of thyme and bay leaf leading into the finish. — Matt Kettmann
