2014 Syrah, Thompson Vineyard
LOS ALAMOS VALLEY | SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
The Thompson Vineyard Syrah was the “perfect pick” for us in 2013, giving us ripe, beautiful fruit that exuded luscious aromatics from its first days in the fermenters. It is rich, luscious, aromatic, with an extremely long, elegant finish. Flavors of gingerbread, cherry, bramble, and a hint of mint. Balanced acidity and tannins provide nice structure and make this wine light and exciting in the mouth. Red fruit, cola, and a “stick to the lips” quality on the finish.
Wine Advocate 93 Points
The 2013 Syrah Thompson Vineyard offers lots of peppery nuances to go with more olive, mineral, herbs and dark fruits. This medium to full-bodied Syrah has the classic purity of fruit that’s present in all of Jaffurs’ wines to go with lively acidity, good mid-palate concentration and a great finish. Aged 18 months in 30% new French oak, drink this beautiful wine over the coming 7-8 years. — J.D.
Vinous 94 Points
The 2013 Syrah Thompson Vineyard is one of the most expressive wines in the range. Although there are no whole clusters here, the Thompson is endowed with soaring aromatic presence. Sweet floral notes and silky tannins give the wine much of its considerable early appeal. The bright red-toned flavors are really popping today. This is all class. — A.G.
