2012 Syrah, Thompson Vineyard
The Thompson Vineyard Syrah was the “perfect pick” for us in 2012, giving us ripe, beautiful fruit that exuded luscious aromatics from its first days in the fermenters. It is rich, luscious, aromatic, with an extremely long, elegant finish. Flavors of gingerbread, cherry, bramble, and a hint of mint. Balanced acidity and tannins provide nice structure and make this wine light and exciting in the mouth. Red fruit, cola, and a “stick to the lips” quality on the finish.
WINE ADVOCATE 92
I always get a little gaminess from the Thompson Vineyard and the 2012 Syrah Thompson Vineyard delivers plenty of it with its bacon fat, black cherry, violets and spring flower-laced bouquet. Vibrant, tight and focused, with bright acidity that's nicely balanced by solid depth of fruit, it will be better this time next year and drink nicely through 2024. Like the other single vineyards, it was completely destemmed and aged 22 months in 25% new French oak. - JD
The 2012 Syrah Thompson Vineyard offers up an attractive mélange of bold red fruit, pomegranate, tobacco, cedar and spice. More exotic blood orange, savory herb and plum notes follow. At present, the wine's creamy, voluptuous personality nearly covers the tannins, but there is more than enough structure to allow the 2012 to drink well for a number of years. This is another absolutely delicious Syrah from the team at Jaffurs. The 2012 spent 22 months in French and American oak barrels, 25% new. - AG
